As a bona fide Charlotte Brontë fan, here’s a piece in the NY Times on an exhibit, commemorating the 200th anniversary of Brontë’s birth, at Morgan Library and Museum, NYC. The exhibit runs until January 2nd:
The painting of the Brontë siblings, above, was painted by Branwell, the brother in the group and according to this article, an aspiring artist of sorts. The NY Times article states:
“Just a few years before this low point, Branwell, an aspiring artist, painted a group portrait of the four siblings, one of the focal points of the exhibition. It is a strange visual document. At some point, Branwell painted over his likeness, leaving a whitish pillar between himself and his sisters, almost as though he had beamed himself out of the family, “Star Trek” style. In a sense, he did. His life ended, at 31, in a suicidal spiral of alcohol and opium addiction. Tuberculosis would claim Emily at 30, soon after “Wuthering Heights” appeared, and Anne at 29”.
Jane Eyre is one of my favorite novels, despite it being a Gothic romance, with bizarre and totally improbable plot twists, characters that seem more caricatures of virtues and vice and overwrought prose meant to make you buy into Jane Eyre, the penniless orphan and paragon of virtue.
For those not familiar with Jane Eyre, here’s the short plot – she’s an orphan, abandoned by her cruel aunt, who grows up and becomes a governess. She arrives at her new job to teach a little girl, whom you are never sure if she’s the illegitimate daughter of the master of the house, Mr. Rochester. Strange happenings, of the ghostly type, occur, like in any good Gothic romance. Mr. Rochester and Jane fall madly in love and decide to wed. Then Jane discovers that the “ghost” is really Mr. Rochester’s demented wife, whom he keeps locked in the attic. And because Brontë has sucked you into the endless Jane pity party, you keep reading.
So, there is poor Jane prepared to marry Mr. Rochester when she realizes he already has the crazy wife locked in the attic. He begs Jane to stay and become his mistress, but here’s Jane, the paragon of virtue:
“Still indomitable was the reply–“I care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself. I will keep the law given by God; sanctioned by man. I will hold to the principles received by me when I was sane, and not mad–as I am now. Jane leaves and then after an assortment of events she returns to Mr. Rochester, who is now blind and missing a hand. The crazy wife burned the house down and jumped from the roof, to her death, and naturally, heroic Mr. Rochester (the guy who tried to get Jane to marry him, despite having a wife locked up in the attic) sustained his injuries trying to save his demented wife (yep, he tried to save the wife he kept locked up in the attic….).
Of course, Jane, being the paragon of virtue, marries him and they live happily ever after.

FBI Director, James Comey, caved to Clinton/Obama pressure to bury Hillary’s email server scandal and now he’s stuck trying to salvage his reputation and at the same time trying to avoid questions about his decision. He is now part of the Clinton, “Time to move on” choir and will do whatever it takes to bury this email server scandal. The Hill reports:
“Republicans on the House Oversight Committee asked officials from the FBI and three other agencies for a classified briefing on Wednesday regarding redactions in the report on Hillary Clinton’s email server — but were denied.
In response to the refusal, the committee has now scheduled a hearing for Monday morning at which the same four agencies — the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Justice and State departments — will be asked to testify.”
The Clinton WALL of obstruction is stronger and higher than any wall Donald Trump could ever dream of building.
The Clinton spin continues apace – blaming Colin Powell again. Rep Elijah Cummings released a Powell email acquired from the State Department, according to a Politico report. So, once again Cummings is going to carry more water for the Clintons and try to use Powell as the scapegoat, to deflect blame from Hillary Clinton. Politico reports:
“This email exchange shows that Secretary Powell advised Secretary Clinton with a detailed blueprint on how to skirt security rules and bypass requirements to preserve federal records, although Secretary Clinton has made clear that she did not rely on this advice,” Cummings said in a statement. “This email exchange also illustrates the longstanding problem that no Secretary of State ever used an official unclassified email account until the current Secretary of State. The Republican obsession with Secretary Clinton has reached a fever pitch, and they have been using taxpayer resources to single her out in a desperate and abusive attempt to hurt her presidential campaign.”

The Clintons will stop at nothing to strong-arm their way back into the White House. The problem for Cummings is Hillary had THOUSANDS of classified documents on, not only a private email account, she had them on her unsecured home-brew server and her aides, the recipients or senders of these classified emails, also have these classified emails on whatever email system they were using. She had them on 13 mobile devices, which she never turned over to the FBI and she had them on 5 ipads, which only 3 were turned over to the FBI.
And the entire time she was using all these devices, heck in the FBI notes one aide to Bill Clinton mentioned that he often say Hillary using a flip phone to talk on and using a blackberry in her hands – so much for the only wanted to use one device for convenience LIE….
Clinton had over 904 emails recovered by the FBI from her gmail account according to these FBI Notes. 56 of those were classified . Those emails were NOT included in the emails her attorneys returned to the State Department AND not on her home-brew server. The FBI uncovered those emails in their investigations.
Cummings is once again trying to deflect and deceive, in his usual rabid partisan fashion.
I am sure he and his fellow Democrats already have their brain-dead talking points prepared and distributed, ready for tomorrow’s congressional hearing.
They will relentlessly repeat these talking points and refuse to even listen to, or consider, any evidence or testimony that reflects negatively on Hillary. The goal is repeat these talking points continuously , so that these talking points are what is remembered and also repeated by the liberal media. It’s the same old vile mass media saturation brainwashing technique they rely on.
Their friends in the liberal media will aid and abet them in every way they can – repeating their talking points and repeating the claim that it’s another “vast, right-wing witch hunt” to hurt Hillary.
SHE is the one who decided to use this UNSECURED server and she is the one who allowed classified information to be relayed on her email system. No Republicans made her do this.
She is UNFIT to ever be trusted with sensitive information.
Retired general Michael Hayden, in the Washington Times, writes:
“Mrs. Clinton’s defense — that many of the discussed strikes never occurred — is also stunning. It’s not quite as bad as saying that it would have been OK for Marshall and Eisenhower in early 1944 to debate over an open line whether to land in Europe at Normandy or Pas de Calais because, after all, we ultimately didn’t land at Pas de Calais. Not quite as bad, but still hard to fathom. Uncertain and unclassified are two different things.
I signed a letter last month with 49 other officials who have served in Republican administrations. We all said Donald Trump was unfit for the presidency. He still is. But many of us also insisted in the letter that this not be read as an endorsement of Mrs. Clinton.
Recently in this space I said that even though I could not vote for him, I would not vote for her. That still holds. In fact, the revelations of the past week make that latter position even more certain.”

Update: 9/8/16, The House Oversight Committee is meeting, as I type. I’ve learned that the Democrats on this committee requested this Powell email FIVE days ago and the State Department could cough it up. Numerous email requests, from Republicans on more than one House committee, have NOT been responded to in YEARS. The State Department officials, especially Undersecretary for Management, Patrick Kennedy’s answers, rank as nothing short of parsing bullshit and massive obfuscations.
Above is the first paragraph of the FBI Interview Notes. It lists Hillary Clinton’s attorneys present for this interview. One name is redacted and one can only wonder why?
On July 2, 2016, the New York Times reported:
Accompanying Mrs. Clinton into the meeting were her lawyer David E. Kendall; Cheryl D. Mills and Heather Samuelson, longtime aides who are also lawyers; and two lawyers from Mr. Kendall’s firm, Williams & Connolly, Katherine Turner and Amy Saharia.
Eight officials from the F.B.I. and the Department of Justice conducted the interview, according to a person who was familiar with the substance of the session but declined to be named because the meeting was private. This person characterized the meeting as “civil” and “businesslike.”

So, was the other attorney Amy Saharia, as the New York Times reported back in July, or was it someone else? Why on earth redact the name, if it was Saharia???
There are several redactions on who was present from the DOJ. The FBI Notes list two people from the DOJ/FBI side and have three names redacted, which comes to 5 names, although the NY Times story says there were 8 DOJ/FBI people present, so who are 3 redacted names + 3 others mentioned in the NY Times story??? Even if that one long block of redaction, after David Laufman’s name is more than one name, we are still left with knowing only 2 names of who was present from the FBI/DOJ and leaves SIX unknowns. Something is very wrong when you compare the NY Times report to the FBI Notes.
Andrew McCarthy and others have explained why Cheryl Mills should not have been present. McCarthy writes:
“Readers may recall that I suggested back in May that “the fix” was in in the investigation of the Clinton emails. The reason was that the Justice Department was allowing Cheryl Mills – a witness, if not a subject, of the investigation – to invoke attorney-client privilege on behalf of Mrs. Clinton in order to thwart the FBI’s attempt to inquire into the procedure used to produce Clinton’s emails to the State Department. Mills was a participant in that procedure – and it is the procedure in which, we now know, well over 30,000 emails were attempted to be destroyed, including several thousand that contained government-related business.
When she worked for Clinton at State, Mills was not acting in the capacity of a lawyer – not for then-Secretary Clinton and not for the State Department. Moreover, as Clinton’s chief-of-staff, Mills was intimately involved in issues related to Clinton’s private email set up, the discussions about getting her a secure BlackBerry similar to President Obama’s, and questions that were raised (including in FOIA requests) about Clinton’s communications.
That is to say, Mills was an actor in the facts that were under criminal investigation by the FBI. Put aside that she was not Mrs. Clinton’s lawyer while working for the State Department; as I explained in the May column, Mills, after leaving the State Department, was barred by ethical rules from acting as Mrs. Clinton’s lawyer “in connection with a matter in which the lawyer participated personally and substantially as a public officer or employee.”
There is no way Mills should have been permitted to participate as a lawyer in the process of producing Clinton’s emails to the State Department nearly two years after they’d both left. I thought it was astonishing that the Justice Department indulged her attorney-client privilege claim, which frustrated the FBI’s ability to question her on a key aspect of the investigation. But it is simply unbelievable to find her turning up at Mrs. Clinton’s interview – participating in the capacity of a lawyer under circumstances where Clinton was being investigated over matters in which Mills participated as a non-lawyer government official.
According to the FBI’s report, Mrs. Clinton had four other attorneys (one whose name is deleted from the report for some reason) representing her at the interview. She clearly did not need another lawyer. And it is Criminal Investigations 101 that law enforcement never interviews witnesses together – the point is to learn the truth, not provide witnesses/suspects with an opportunity to keep their story straight, which undermines the search for truth. Why on earth was Cheryl Mills permitted to sit in on Hillary Clinton’s FBI interview?

Something smells very wrong here. I wonder if perhaps Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch were present to oversee this interview and assure it led nowhere? Would that even be possible?
We deserve an answer as to who all was present for this kangaroo proceeding!!!
And lest we forget, James Comey folded his cards on an indictment on July 5, 2016, as President Obama was en route to a campaign stop in Charlotte, NC, with Hillary on board Air Force One with him.
Afterthought:
Perhaps the FBI Notes release is a SOS from the FBI to let the American people know the rule of law has been hijacked by the Clintons and Obama.

Throughout this election many alarms keep hitting the news about covert Russian operations to interfere in our election. The Washington Post reports that the US intelligence community is looking into it:
“U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies are probing what they see as a broad covert Russian operation in the United States to sow public distrust in the upcoming presidential election and in U.S. political institutions, intelligence and congressional officials said.
The aim is to understand the scope and intent of the Russian campaign, which incorporates cyber-tools to hack systems used in the political process, enhancing Russia’s ability to spread disinformation.
The effort to better understand Russia’s covert influence operations is being spearheaded by James R. Clapper Jr., the director of national intelligence. “This is something of concern for the DNI,” said Charles Allen, a former longtime CIA officer who has been briefed on some of these issues. “It is being addressed.”
A Russian influence operation in the United States “is something we’re looking very closely at,” said one senior intelligence official who, as others interviewed, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter. Officials are also examining potential disruptions to the election process, and the FBI has alerted state and local officials to potential cyberthreats.
The official cautioned that the intelligence community is not saying it has “definitive proof” of such tampering, or any Russian plans to do so. “But even the hint of something impacting the security of our election system would be of significant concern,” the official said. “It’s the key to our democracy, that people have confidence in the election system.””
Due to Trump’s bizarre comment, hoping the Russians locate Hillary’s missing emails and return them to the FBI, his former campaign manager’s alleged ties to Russian oligarchs, and the DNC email hack and release of those emails (attributed to the Russians), the Democrats and Hillary’s campaign will be hyping this Russian threat. How real or how substantial the “Russian threat” has yet to be determined, but you can expect the Democrats to being seeing Russian influence everywhere.
Of course, the “Russian threat” may be real and substantial, but at this point, no one can state that with certainty.
Never thought the Democrats would be stirring up a “red scare”, but then again I never thought a NYC liberal con man would ever be the Republican candidate….

Why did Hillary Clinton decide to use the private server?
On page 3 of the FBI notes, Justin Cooper stated that Huma Abedin recommended he contact Bryan Pagliano to replace the server with a new server in late 2008,
Cooper was the aide to Bill Clinton, who set up and maintained this personal server for Bill Clinton. Pagliano was the IT guy for Hillary’s 2008 presidential campaign. After the new server was installed, both Cooper and Pagliano had administrative accounts to maintain the server. Pagliano believed he was building the new server for Bill Clinton’s staff and was unaware Hillary was going to use it.
Pagliano stated he transferred only two email accounts to the new server – Huma Abedin and BLANK. However, Cooper believed the other account was Hillary’s account and not Abedin’s, so once again, we are at the whose account is BLANK, on Bill Clinton’s personal server, that he had set up in his home for his foundation work…
At the bottom of page 10, Huma Abedin, Cheryl Mills, and Jake Sullivan all told the FBI that they were unaware of the private server until after Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State.
So, Abedin obviously lied to the FBI. She recommended that Cooper contact Pagliano about setting up a new server in late 2008 and which was set up in January 2009.
Previously released emails show Mills had knowledge of the private server too, but even in these FBI notes, on page 5, it states that in 2013, Cherly Mills is the person who searched for a new vendor to manage the email server.
Hillary Clinton claims she was unaware of the server in her basement, but became aware of it at some point. She claims she had no knowledge of the new server being installed to replace the old server in 2009 (just as she took office at the State Department). This is the woman who had teams of spies to keep tabs on her husband on the campaign trail in 1992. Assuredly, she had “minders” keeping tabs on him in 2007, when this server was installed in their home, because she was launching her presidential bid for 2008. It seems inconceivable she didn’t know about this server being installed in her home in 2007 or about the new server being installed to replace that server, in 2009.
The new server was set-up specifically to accommodate the email from Hillary and her staff with Bill Clinton and his staff ABOUT THE FOUNDATION BUSINESS – that is what it was for.
Huma Abedin was the go-between between Bill Clinton’s IT guy, Cooper, and Hillary’s campaign IT guy, Pagliano to merge this from the Bill Clinton server to the Bill and Hillary server – to merge their Clinton Foundation work.
Hillary and her “easier to use one device” explanation for her use of the server was clearly absurd, as she went through 13 mobile devices and 5 ipads, as bad about electronics as Imelda Marcos was with shoes……. although Imelda kept better track of her shoes…. On page 8, Cooper describes Hillary using a flip-phone to talk on while using her blackberry at the same time, so she could multi-task with multiple electronic devices….
Hillary was still using email from an account she had on her blackberry during the first few months of the new server system being in place. Then she moved to using the new server exclusively. The new server was intended for the Clintons, and their staffers, to keep all their foundation work on this private email server. Hillary deciding to do all of her State Department business on the server was likely out of her belief that she could control and keep her State Department records private too. She, like her husband, or likely from listening to her husband, believed that the server was “safe”, because it was protected by the Secret Service in their home.
“Clinton stated she never deleted, nor did she instruct anyone to delete, her emails to avoid complying with FOIA, State or FBI requests for information.”

Okay, let’s think about this for a second. If Hillary did not delete any emails or instruct anyone to delete her emails, there are two choices for how those thousand of “yoga schedules and wedding plans” personal emails ended up deleted, since we know her Clinton lawyers, David Kendall, Cheryl Mills, and Heather Samuelson carried out the process of deleting those emails.
Either these lawyers took it upon themselves to delete all those emails
OR
Someone else instructed this team of lawyers to delete all those other emails
My guess is BILL CLINTON.
Since that server contained, not only Hillary’s State Department emails and personal emails, it ALSO contained Bill Clinton’s Clinton Foundation emails, I highly doubt David Kendall just decided to delete Bill Clinton’s emails, without Bill Clinton’s involvement in the decision to delete those emails.
Bill Clinton has been directing every aspect of this cover-up, just as he has been orchestrating Hillary’s campaign, from the strong-arming President Obama, to the setting up the GOP Insurgency, to the meeting on the tarmac with Loretta Lynch in Phoenix.
Lawyers don’t just start deleting government or non-profit corporation records a client has in his/her possession, without the client’s knowledge and permission.
Today there are several headlines on news sites about how Cheryl Mills is the “mastermind” behind this cover-up. Mills was allowed to be present, as part of the team of lawyers for Hillary, during her FBI interview, despite Mills also being a material witness in this criminal investigation. The DOJ allowed Mills to be present and that goes to Cheryl Mills and Loretta Lynch being long-time friends and Bill Clinton’s tarmac visit with Lynch.
However, Mills is just a Clinton toady, she is not the “mastermind.”
Bill Clinton is the mastermind behind this cover-up.
