A few thoughts on where we’re at in America

Today I started to watch a YouTube video – homesteading/prepper genre – and I got so fed-up that I unsubscribed and decided I’m done watching that channel. The person was talking about the situation in the Middle East and insinuating that Israel allowed this Hamas attack to happen or had something to do with it, by framing it with, “how could Hamas get through the Israeli border?” and that’s the right-wing TPUSA guy, Charlie Kirk’s, framing that it must be some kind of Jewish conspiracy that’s been racing around right-wing social media, rather than that Hamas found ways to breach the Israeli high-tech border security system and launch a very carefully planned and executed attack – this was a sophisticated attack from the reports I’ve read online. I’m not assuming this person meant this as an anti-Semitic statement, but I’m sick to death of the stupid conspiracy theories that race across the Trump-right online spaces. After reading more reports of the atrocities committed, that were just released by the Israeli government, I wasn’t in the mood for this level of stupidity and ignorance.

And yes, it’s stupidity to not have a clue that asymmetrical attacks by forces with way less military power against more highly trained forces and sophisticated defensive systems, are possible and it’s something terrorist groups and guerilla type forces often resort to. Anyone who doesn’t realize that even the most high-tech and sophisticated defensive structure can be breached is an idiot. I don’t know the details of Israeli security, even though I’ve watched a lot of news about Israel over the years, with them coming under attack so often.

Heck, today was the anniversary of the October 23, 1983 Beirut barracks bombing – 241 US service members died in that blast set off by a suicide bomber driving a truck filled with explosives. That attack was linked to Hezbollah. The US invaded Grenada on October 25, 1983. I remember when my husband, who was in the 82nd Airborne deployed. I didn’t know if they were headed to the Middle East or somewhere else. The call came at night to report in with bag and baggage. I was 7 months pregnant with our second child. A lot of major crises can happen quickly. I found this article, How the invasion of Grenada was planned with a tourist map and a copy of ‘The Economist’. Well, I have two of those tourist maps that my husband used to navigate. Afterwards, my husband and some of his friends were sitting in our kitchen and they were talking about the map said, “120,000 warm and friendly people” and laughing hysterically.

There is no such thing as 100% impenetrable defenses, especially the border of a country. Israel had daily crossings of Gazans coming into Israel to work. Here’s an article from September of 2022, Israel okays 1,500 more entry permits for Gaza workers, bringing total to 17,000. This article states, “Israel will raise the quota of work permits for Gazan Palestinians to 17,000 next week, expanding a policy that defense officials view as a means of maintaining quiet on the country’s southern front.” That’s a lot of people coming and going from Gaza and so much for that working out as a means of maintaining quiet on Israel’s southern front.

There are all sorts of books on asymmetrical warfare and frankly, the question I was asking was how Hamas managed to defeat the more sophisticated defensive system the Israelis relied on. I’m sure the IDF and Israeli security forces are piecing this together carefully, because these security failures posed an existential threat to their country.

There are too many Americans, whose entire understanding of the world is all about the present American partisan battles – on the right it’s always the MAGA vs. the Libs and they avidly embrace whatever crazy ideas the MAGA pundit class feeds them. On the left there’s an alarming number of American young people ranting, “Free Palestine” and taking to the streets, ranting anti-Semitic slogans, like “from the river to the sea,” not even having a clue that this is a call for the annihilation of Israel and driving all the Jews from the Jordan River into the Mediterranean Sea. There have been numerous news reports of leftist activists tearing down posters of people being held hostage by Hamas.

This is the state of America and it alarms me.

I pulled out a book to reread today and I highly recommend it if you want to learn how to think through national security issues: National Security Dilemmas: Challenges & Opportunities, by Colin S. Gray. This isn’t some answer book on these complex issues and that’s the thing, you have to do some reading and then do some more reading to understand complex issues. Often I realize new things and realize how I viewed a situation for years was not accurate or I learn more and that added knowledge gets me rethinking my views. In many situations there are more nuances than most people realize, so I like to keep reading and learning more. I also like to listen to people who are subject matter experts and I’ve always read a lot of government reports and I like reading military history and lessons learned reports. But I am terrible at geography and always have to refer to maps.

It’s amazing to me that so many people who’ve never bothered to read anything about complicated situations listen to some yahoo pundit or someone on social media and then believe that’s some brilliant analysis. I’ve read several of the late Dr. Gray’s books and recommend his books and writings if you want to expand your understanding and learn how to think through military strategic issues and national security dilemmas.

Right now, it looks to me like America is facing our most determined adversaries (China, Russia, Iran and I think North Korea has joined the pact) working in tandem to overwhelm America and the West with crises.

If I was a betting person, I’d think China and North Korea igniting some foreign policy fires in other parts of the world is next and them launching some attacks through terrorist proxies inside the US or attacking our troops or interests somewhere around the world would not surprise me in the least.

This is the reality and it’s what our adversaries are doing – to pursue their own interests. it’s not some big Jewish conspiracy or the evil military industrial complex – it’s America’s adversaries are on the move to knock us to our knees. I believe America and the West are now facing the most challenging, rapidly changing and complicated security challenge in my lifetime.

Simplistic blathering about how the American people don’t want to get in any more wars isn’t a luxury we’re going to have if American troops come under increasing attacks and if other big players like Iran, Russia, China, or North Korea start threatening our allies and countries we have made security agreements with or there are more large scale terrorist attacks. We should be bolstering our alliances – especially NATO and our close allies in the rest of the world. Those security arrangements bolster our American security.

On a personal level, I believe everyone should be seriously thinking about personal security, having emergency food and water supplies, and learning to practice situational awareness, which doesn’t cost a thing – just pay attention to what’s going on around you, especially in public places. Don’t walk around in public engrossed in your cell phone.

And even as all this stuff is going on in the world, it’s important to still be grateful for each day and carry on your normal life – because that’s the best thing you can do for yourself and your family.

Big power competitions present big challenges

‘Delight in smooth-sounding platitudes, refusal to face unpleasant facts … genuine love of peace and pathetic belief that love can be its sole foundation … the utter devotion of the Liberals to sentiment apart from reality … though free from wickedness or evil design, played a definite part in the unleashing upon the world of horrors and miseries”.

So said Winston Churchill in The Gathering Storm and it’s tragic that we are having to learn the same lessons less than a century later. We face a rising axis composed of China, Iran, North Korea and Russia that is more powerful than Nazi Germany, more strategically threatening than the Soviet Union. It commands much of the world’s population, has cornered the processing of critical minerals and possesses more than half the planet’s thermonuclear weapons. It is also militarising faster than the West and sowing discord (particularly online) while gaining ever more influence in the non-aligned world, not least Africa where Russian flags are flying in the Sahel.

It is time to wake up and smell the danger.

The above excerpt is from a piece, While our leaders indulge in puerile squabbles, tyrants seize the moment: Western complacency has allowed China, Iran, North Korea and Russia to amass a frightening advantage, by Matthew Syed, in The Sunday Times. Even if you don’t read the rest of my blog post, I urge you to read Mr. Syed’s piece.

With events in the world changing at warp speed, mostly I want to focus my blog on the big picture events (the geopolitics) and trying to offer a tiny bit of historical background and information I find relevant. I caveat all of this with this is my personal opinion blog and I am not any sort of expert on anything – only a grandma, mother and American citizen, who’s concerned about the divides in America, our thoroughly corrupted information ecosystems that are polluted with lies and more lies, plus I’m very concerned about the lack of loyalty to both our American foundational principles and our constitutional republic, as all these alarming events beyond our shores are swirling.

Unfortunately, petty hyper-partisan politics consume way too much space in our public political discourse and it’s a safe bet most people wait for what their favorite pundits, celebrities, or people they listen to on social media spoon-feed them and then run with that as their hot take about what’s going on. Almost daily it’s some new catchy talking points or phrase that all of a sudden everyone is repeating as if it’s some brilliant analysis. I did say “listen to,” because I doubt most people go looking for more information to read or digging for some background information. I’m trying to add in news links, sources that are useful, and books.

If anyone asked me what’s going to happen, well, I can’t predict what America’s adversaries are going to do, let alone anyone else for that matter, but I think this war widening is more likely than not. I hope I’m wrong.

A lot of people in MAGA political circles seem to believe that Trump was a superhero, who kept America safe and certainly I prefer Trump’s foreign policies and the efforts to secure our borders, but Trump reveled in being America’s Disruptor-In-Chief and fanning divides. That played into the hands of our adversaries and that’s likely why Putin and Xi cheer Trump. Trump says he’s good friends with them (part of the tough guy crowd). With Trump they know America’s top leadership will be in constant turmoil. There are a whole lot of far-left political people who also fomented divides in America (Summer of Love anyone, or how about all the COVID drama). Biden displays glaring weakness dealing with our adversaries, especially China and Iran, and that plays into our adversaries hands too. And add in Biden also aggressively works to divide America, especially when he rages about “MAGA Republicans.” Often I say, “We are doomed with leaders like these,” and “Is this the best America can come up with for leaders?”

The truth is our adversaries have their own policy goals and want to replace America (and the West) as the top dogs on the world stage – this is their objective, regardless who is president here in America. A stronger America and allied West might deter them, but it’s important to realize they have been working for years (decades) to pursue their objectives – long before Trump or Biden were president.

Many of the situations creating flashpoints now – like Ukraine vs. Russia and Hamas vs. Israel have long, long histories. I had honestly hoped we could close the book on having to deal with more radical Islamist terrorist threats, but here we are and it feels like we’re back where we started with 9/11.

This weekend I was looking over my books on radical Islamist stuff and I came across, The Islamic Bomb, by Steve Weissman and Herbert Krosney, which was published in 1981 and that’s the first book I think I read about the threat of nuclear weapons in the Islamic world. I thought about how long this has been a serious threat. This book starts out with Chapter 1, titled: The Bombing of the Osirak Reactor, which occurred in 1981 – it was the Israelis bombing an Iraqi site, where Saddam Hussein was trying to develop nuclear weapons. It kind of feels like we’re always back to square one with the nuclear threat issue and chaos in the Mideast.

Here we are in 2023 and many Americans are understandably sick of foreign wars that never seemed to benefit America and wars that never seemed to end.

America’s adversaries have been flexing their muscles, as America began retreating from our adventures in the Bush-era Global War on Terror and regime change/democracy-building projects, which was followed by the Obama embrace of the glorious “Arab Spring.” Creating power vacuums is always an invitation for other powers to try to fill them. This was going on in the Trump years too, despite Trump’s tougher policies on Iran and it’s escalated dramatically in the Biden years, largely due to Biden’s major public displays of bungled events (like the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle and the Chinese spy balloon fiasco) and very weak foreign policy decisions – especially with catering to Iran.

China is on the move too. Back in June there was this – Chinese warship cuts off US Navy ship, marking 2nd military provocation in week.

Well, now China is threatening Philippine vessels – Philippines say Chinese boats rammed vessels in disputed waters

I feel we’re on the way to a larger war, because Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are flexing their muscles, aggressively expanding their influence and making the moves to pursue their territorial aspirations. This is going to happen no matter who is President, I believe. Unfortunately, America is too politically and culturally divided and disunited, while our adversaries are more united by the day. I’m still hopeful our leaders will wake up to the threats and begin to pull our country together.

In my last blog post I had links to two news articles on Russia and North Korea meeting and agreeing to closer ties – economic and security (that’s military). A few days ago when President Biden gave his speech committing the US to aiding Ukraine and Israel, China was hosting their Belt and Road conference in Beijing, which is ostensibly about international cooperation. Putin was the guest of honor. The Taliban showed up… and so did Viktor Orban (the guy Tucker Carlson was fawning all over). This article at The China Project, Surprise attendees, notable absences, and Vladimir Putin at the Belt and Road Forum, covers who attended and who didn’t.

Senator Mitch McConnell, whom many among the MAGA right loathe, hit the Sunday shows to talk about aiding Ukraine and Israel and he wants to get the aid package through quickly – and there’s talk that additional funding for border security might be included too. It’s become a MAGA default position to rail about aid to Ukraine and McConnell is despised among the MAGA right, so naturally there will be plenty of angry debates. The truth is McConnell explained the reality of the situation in the first minute:

Biden committed US to aiding Ukraine and Israel

President Biden gave a speech to the nation from the Oval Office last night trying to lay out the case for why American support of Ukraine and Israel matters to us. His speech likely infuriated the far-left and those invested in the Obama foreign policy aims, because Biden stated a very traditional, peace through strength, foreign policy position, when he stated:

“I know the conflicts can seem far away and it’s natural to ask: Why does this matter to America?” Biden said. “So let me share with you why making sure Israel and Ukraine succeed is vital for America’s national security. You know, history has taught us that when terrorists don’t pay a price for their terror, when dictators don’t pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos and death and more destruction.”

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/president-biden-says-us-holds-the-world-together-amid-israel-and-ukraine-wars/ar-AA1iwJmX

His speech meandered around, trying to curry favor with the left, by lecturing on one of their favored “oppressed” issues – fighting Islamophobia, while also giving a shout-out against anti-Semitism. He seemed to focus more on trying to make the case for aiding Ukraine than Israel, but overall he made clear he’s committed America to aiding Ukraine and Israel.

There were a few minor presentation issues, like he was reading his speech too fast and seemed like he was in a hurry to get through it. The speech itself didn’t seem to have a coherent structure to pull together the points into a compelling vision, but it was way more solid than his other rambling speeches and he avoided the usual drifting off topic gaffes or mentioning his son, Beau.

I support America standing firm on aiding Ukraine in their battle against Russian aggression and I definitely am on board with supporting one of our closest allies, Israel, after the brutal Hamas massacre of innocent civilians.

There assuredly are all sorts of opinions on how we ended up where we’re at. Perceived American weakness likely emboldened Russia. Putin is a Realpolitik operator and definitely an opportunistic political pragmatist, so watching the endless political chaos in America, likely made him calculate we are a basket case.

The Biden administration is unlikely ever to concede that their foreign policy failures, like the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle, the 180 degree shift from Trump’s tough stance on Iran to Biden’s kissing Iran’s behind, to even the week-long Chinese balloon flight across America (over our most sensitive military sites) earlier this year, to the shift within the US military from focus on warfighting to General Milley’s gung-ho hunt for white nationalists and Secretary Austin’s going full-woke signaled American weakness. Overarching all of these incidents our American politics have become an endless clown show of chaos, divisiveness and dysfunction.

All of America’s adversaries likely feel emboldened.

Most Americans, myself included, don’t keep up with the internal politics in a lot of foreign countries and I was unaware that Israel has been going through some very contentious internal political upheavals, when Netanyahu tried to change the judiciary, weaken its powers, amidst major opposition and protesting. I had been trying to cut back on how much news I read and look at online and had stopped watching almost all TV news. I decided with all the events unfolding now, I want to pay more attention to news and reading more old news stories to fill in gaps in my understanding.

With this massacre in Israel carried out by Hamas, I was reading more news, trying to understand what’s going on, I was wondering, “Why now?” Israel had been undergoing some serious internal political turmoil in recent months, where even some Army reserve officers protested:

“TEL AVIV, July 18 (Reuters) – Protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s judicial overhaul intensified on Tuesday with demonstrations nationwide, and a retired Israeli air force general said 161 of the corps’ reserve officers had vowed to no longer report for duty.

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israel-hit-by-day-disruption-disputed-judicial-bill-nears-key-vote-2023-07-18/

I also suspect that every part of the Biden administration has been thoroughly compromised by political appointees, who have cred within the progressive left, but have even closer ties to governments hostile to the United States. So, on the one hand I’m glad Biden stood up for standing firm against Russia and Hamas, but it remains to be seen if the Team Obama Iranian fanboys will stand firm against Iranian aggression. Iran has ramped up attacks, via proxies, against US troops in Iraq and Syria. However, there’s a bit of disjointed stances on the Trump right too and laments about “proxy wars” in Ukraine and Israel. Well, the thing is Russia, China and Iran are operating through proxies too, arming and training various rogue regimes and terrorist groups.

Yesterday, this news story, Russia Seeks Regular Security Talks With North Korea, China, ran in Bloomberg and ABC News ran this story, Russian foreign minister thanks North Korea for ‘unwavering’ support in Ukraine war:

“LONDON — Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has hailed deepening relations between Russia and North Korea during his two-day diplomatic trip to Pyongyang in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.”

Many Americans, myself included too often, see everything through a red vs. blue lens, but America’s adversaries are on the move to expand and deepen their alliances and to flex their muscles on the world stage and they would likely love if America takes an isolationist position and they’ll be avidly fanning the flames to divide and sow confusion with the escalating propaganda war. We really don’t have the luxury to sit on the sidelines, if we want to maintain America’s standing in the world.

Update: I forgot to add this news link, Biden: Hamas attacked Israel in part to stop a historic agreement with Saudi Arabia, which adds another part of what likely played into why Hamas attacked Israel now. Israel and Saudi Arabia were ready to normalize relations and that’s definitely something Iran and Hamas didn’t want to happen.

Well, I better add a bit here, since I was reading a right-wing site that rips this Biden claim to shreds, saying the reports are Hamas was planning this attack for a long time and that Biden had nothing to do with the Israel-Saudi deals – that was a Trump foreign policy effort, which is true.

More turbo-charged American spin war escapades

I went on Twitter/X this morning and of course, our liberal media’s rush yesterday to run with Hamas’ version blaming Israel for a “missile attack that destroyed a hospital in Gaza – claiming mass casualties – at least 500 dead.” turned out to be a lie. The IDF and US officials conclude it was a Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket that misfired and hit a hospital. There’s been video footage from today showing the hospital wasn’t destroyed and it was the hospital parking lot that was hit.

Palestinian authorities, even before Hamas, routinely lied and created elaborate street theater productions of anti-Israeli propaganda – for decades this has been going on and is nothing new. However, all of this media embrace of the Hamas version ignited violent anti-Israel and anti-American protests around the world yesterday. The same liberal media that demanded endless verification of slaughtered Israeli (and American) civilians by Hamas, the same Hamas who is presently holding hundreds of hostage, took the Hamas spokesperson’s word yesterday without question.

This isn’t the first time the same crowd of liberal media and talking head class sided with terrorists though – they did it in 2020 when Trump was president and our military took out ISIS terrorist leader al-Baghdadi and Iranian terrorist mastermind, General Soleimani, because the liberal media didn’t want to give Trump any credit for that. Then Iran lobbed some missiles at US troops in Iraq .

Soleimani was the leader of the Iranian Quds Force and responsible for Iranian IEDs that were fed to terrorists in Iraq. He was responsible for hundreds of American soldiers being killed by those Iranian IEDs in Iraq, yet our media was glorifying him, all because Trump ordered US troops to take him out. This would be like our media cheering on Osama Bin Laden when US troops took him out.

I was on Twitter that night in January 2020 and then watched the Dems and liberal media spin effort take off, in real time, as those events unfolded and it was alarming to me. Iran lobbed missiles at US troops in Iraq, then Iran accidentally shot down a Ukrainian airliner taking off in Tehran. A big Dem/liberal media spin effort ignited. I was upset that these yahoos were siding with Iran, because they wanted to blame Trump for “causing” Iran to fire missiles at US troops in retaliation for the US eliminating Soleimani. The truth was Iran controlled the airspace at the airport in Tehran and was responsible for any planes taking off and landing at that airport. Their military accidentally shot down that Ukrainian airliner (although I was curious who all was on that plane). The US fired no missiles at Iran that night. Yet, these Dem and liberal media were spinning up “fog of war” and other crazy talking points, like asserting the shootdown happened due to “crossfire,” to absolve Iran of blame and blame Trump. There was no “crossfire,” since Iran was the only one firing missiles that night – attacking US troops in Iraq and shooting down a civilian airliner taking off in Tehran… They were willing to do damage control for the terrorist regime in Iran, even when US troops had been targeted by Iranian missile attacks that night – all because they hate Trump and wanted to blame him. It was the craziest thing I ever saw – until yesterday.

One of the big Dem spin queens during that Twitter spin effort was Susan Hennessey, who was working at Lawfare, but now is in the Biden NSA – yes, a person with that lack of judgment to spew pro-Iranian propaganda, when US troops were just attacked is at the Biden NSA. I’m including my challenge to her tweet, as verification of that spin effort, even though she sanitized her Twitter feed when she was picked to work at the NSA and that’s the person, whose tweet I was responding to in my first tweet:

Here’s my blog post too: https://libertybellediaries.com/2020/01/10/careening-down-the-road-to-self-destruction/,

This morning I posted on Twitter/X:

So, as if that’s not bad enough. I then saw this bit of news today too:

Yes, this terrorist-sympathizer is working in the Biden Department of Homeland Security – handling asylum claims.

Here’s a Marc Theissen post on Twittetr/X from this morning, pointing out that the New York Times yesterday used a photo from some other bombing, because today the images, show that hospital in Gaza was not destroyed yesterday:

I wasn’t kidding yesterday about how you have to be skeptical about every news report – no matter who is reporting it and be particularly wary of photos and videos, because images have always been easily manipulated – long before AI. When Stalin was dictator of the Soviet Union in the 1940s and 50s, he routinely had people erased out of photos, if they got on his bad side and were… eliminated.

In my X thread from this morning I mentioned Robert Malley and somehow the liberal media hasn’t rushed to dig into that Biden scandal and I expect that story will get the Hunter Biden laptop treatment from the liberal media – they’ll pretend “nothing to see here.” Robert Malley was working at the Biden State Department and is the administration’s top Iran negotiator. He also worked for Presidents Clinton and Obama. In July, the Biden State Department announced that Malley’s security clearance had been suspended for mishandling highly classified information. Here’s an article about this guy: High-Level Iranian Spy Ring Busted in Washington. I’ll be writing a blog post about Robert Malley soon.

As events unfold in this Israeli-Hamas conflict, Iran’s hands are all over this Hamas attack. We have an administration with a lot of apologists for both Iran and Palestinian terrorists in it – even their recently suspended top Iran envoy – Robert Malley was allegedly feeding top classified information to Iranian spies…

Update: 10/18/2023 8:43 pm, I just saw this Twitter/X thread by journalist Drew Holden, who put together all the media Hamas disinformation from yesterday:

Update: 10/19/2023, 8:35 am – Here’s another piece at RedState: Why Is Alleged Iranian Operative Ariane Tabatabai Still Working in the Pentagon?

Wray mentioned “Hamas-style” attacks

The other day I saw a post on Twitter/X speculating that if any Gazan refugees are allowed into Egypt, they’d likely ship them to Venezuela, so they can be assisted to the US southern border. I can’t remember who posted that comment, but it got me googling for more information on Iran’s activities in South America and Latin America. While I doubt Egypt will allow in any Gazan refugees, due to the risk of importing Hamas terrorists and Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers, this person’s speculation brought to mind the 2015 Syrian refugee crisis, that resulted in Europe being flooded with refugees. It also reminded me of the massive political, activist, and media propaganda efforts to guilt the West to open their doors. Most of the same players are involved in this current attack on Israel and trying to cast Israel in the wrong for responding with force to an invasion and bloody massacre by Hamas.

Ron DeSantis, governor of FL and 2024 GOP presidential candidate, announced we should not allow in any refugees from Gaza and he attempted to explain the culture among Palestinians, who it’s a safe bet most of them hold anti-Semitic views and are virulently anti-Israel, not to mention plenty are radicalized jihadists. Palestinian schools teach their children to hate Jews and that they should want to kill them. This has been reported for decades now. UN Watch, a NGO in Geneva, Switzerland, reported on March 14, 2023 report, UN Teachers Call To Murder Jews, Reveals New Report. The UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine. Just so we know what our tax dollars are funding through the UN: “UNRWA schools funded by US and EU indoctrinate Palestinian children to antisemitism, hate and violence.”

Former President Trump has now come out with a similar announcement as DeSantis, saying he would reinstate and expand his travel ban, to include refugees from Gaza.

While it’s easy to get sucked into the pulling at our heartstrings when we see people, especially children, trapped in terrible situations, especially war zones, and America has a long history of providing refuge to people fleeing those situations, but should our leaders take a harder, more pragmatic approach, when it comes to refugees, from places where anti-Western attitudes pervade and the culture is steeped in glorifying jihadist terrorism?

In 2015, there was a Syrian refugee child (whose family was reportedly Syrian Kurds), who drowned off the coast of Turkey when the inflatable rubber boat he was on overturned. Photos of that dead child blazed across media around the world and that little boy became the face of the crisis. Turkey’s leader, Erdogan, a leader who has dealt harshly with Kurds, all of sudden was busily trying to shame European leaders that they must do something – and they did – they took in more and more “Syrian” refugees, who were not vetted and many of them came, not from Syria, but from all over the Middle East and beyond.

I’m a detail person and I did write a blog post in 2015 about this drowned child becoming the face of the Syrian refugee crisis. In one news report of the incident of the boy dying when the inflatable rubber boat sank, there was mention of his body being found and moved on the beach, so that made me wonder if the photo was staged for effect, not that a drowned child isn’t awful. It was just how his body was laying in the water made a big visual impact. Then there were conflicting stories, with the boy’s surviving father claiming the boat’s captain abandoned the boat when the engine failed and he gave conflicting accounts, Then there was an Iraqi survivor, from that boat who claimed the drowned boy’s father was the captain and he was operating the illegal smuggling operation. From Wikipedia:

“An Iraqi survivor from the same boat, Zainab Abbas, who also lost two children from the attempted crossing, told reporters that Abdullah had been presented to her as the “captain”, that he was driving the overcrowded boat too fast, causing it to flip over, and that he pleaded with her while they were still both in the water not to report him to anyone in authority.[32][33] Abbas said her family escaped out of Baghdad from ISIS and she was angry because all the media attention was on Alan Kurdi and Abdullah Kurdi, and not on her family.[34] “

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Alan_Kurdi

With this current war between Israel and Hamas, there’s so much propaganda and dishonest reporting that it’s hard to even sift through most of it. Then there’s the reality that many people lie, embellish or shade the truth and often reporters are more political activists or devoted to causes than they are about getting the facts straight. The other day, I posted photos of children taken hostage by Hamas and I thought about it a good bit before posting that, because I don’t like children used in politics, but Hamas did invade Israel and did break into Israeli families’ homes and take these children hostage. Americans were taken hostage too.

The media is running a lot of Gaza’s an “open air prison” and the horrors for the people of Gaza now to build up a drumbeat for other countries to step in and take Gazan refugees, but you can be sure neither Erdogan in Turkey nor any Arab leaders will open their doors to refugees from Gaza – because there’s no way to vet them and they don’t want to risk bringing in radicalized jihadists. But more than one government in that area of the world has been involved in transporting radical jihadism to Europe and America. That’s the truth and it now seems that along with a lot of Americans not wanting any more military adventurism, like regime change or trying to set up western-style democracies in the Muslim world, they also want to completely forget the post-9/11 terrorism lessons we learned. Unfortunately, the radical Islamist brand of terrorism hasn’t forgotten us and they still chant, “Death to America!”

There’s a long history of Iran’s involvement with oil in Venezuela, but here’s a 2020 Atlantic Council piece, The Maduro-Hezbollah Nexus: How Iran-backed Networks Prop up the Venezuelan Regime, which explains how Hezbollah is operating in Venezuela and Latin America, especially with drug trafficking. This article states, “In October 2018, the Justice Department elevated Hezbollah’s status in the United States by listing it as one of the top five transnational criminal organizations (TCO).10 Naming Hezbollah alongside three major Mexican cartels and the Central American gang MS-13 was a wake-up call for Latin America to realize that, in today’s age, Hezbollah is equal to the cartels in organized crime and terror.

We keep hearing reports of people crossing our southern border, who aren’t from Latin America or South America and are on the FBI terrorist watchlist and invariably right-wing media gives these stories a lot of coverage, while liberal media tries to breeze past them and downplay the threat.

Most Democrats in Washington and the WH downplay the threat of bad actors getting into America, across our unsecured border. A few days ago, our FBI director, Christopher Wray, taking a break from warning about “right-wing extremists, came out and warned that a “Hamas-style” attack could happen here. That “Hamas-style attack was radical jihadist terror, the kind Trump tried to stomp out with the elimination of the ISIS leader, al-Baghdadi, and the Iranian terrorist mastermind, General Soleimani. Many Democrats, foreign policy experts and mainstream liberal media people attacked these Trump decisions. The Washington Post dubbed al-Baghdadi an “austere religious scholar.” With Soleimani, whose terrorist plots with providing IEDs to Iraqi jihadists, resulted in killing hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq, Andrea Mitchell, longtime NBC reporter, was hyping him as a respected Iranian military leader and the Washington Post called Soleimani a “revered” leader.

There are already bad actors, funded by the Iranian regime in Venezuela, Latin America and Mexico, who are involved in the drug trafficking with the cartels. Drug-trafficking bad actors are also involved in weapons and human smuggling, so the open border poses a national security threat to America in many ways.

We need to secure our borders and it’s way past time for more leaders to start speaking the truth, instead of being silenced by all this PC virtue-signaling, especially from our liberal media.

A bit of a primer on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

This video by Task and Purpose runs almost an hour. It’s packed with a lot of important background history and analysis of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while explaining the current Hamas attack on Israel and Israeli response, without any drama.

There’s no excuse for the Biden border fiasco

“God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it.”

Daniel Webster

Today I worked on more pressure canning – some soup and ground beef. I also have chicken in the fridge to use to can chicken and vegetables in a “meal-in-a-jar” recipe, I want to try. I was thinking about the horrific attacks in Israel, but I want to stay focused on projects and things I can do in my own life. The nature of the surprise Hamas attacks, using paragliders to fly over the Israeli border shows that determined people can defeat even very careful security measures. Babies, children, elderly people were murdered in cold blood and some kidnapped. The horror goes beyond words.

Some of my direct ancestors came to America in the mid 1700s and settled in PA. During the French and Indian War, that area of PA was part of the American frontier. That war was fought largely along the Virginia and Pennsylvania frontier – where settlers dealt with the threat of attacks on their homes and small communities continually. The Hamas hostage-taking made me think of how hostage-taking became a deliberate tactic by the Indian tribes in that long ago conflict too. At the end of the war, agreements were signed for the return of all settlers who had been taken hostage. Many of the children had become attached to their Indian tribal family and did not even remember their real family. Brutal tactics are nothing new.

I turned on the news this afternoon on the free app, Haystack News, and a reporter in Jerusalem was being asked about what daily life is like in the past few days. He said his family is staying at home, close to a bomb shelter, except for short trips to the grocery store for milk and bread. There have been news reports online where victims in Israel described rushing to safe rooms and shelters to try to escape Hamas terrorists. There are plenty of scenes from Gaza, where the Israelis are inflicting massive damage on Hamas (and Palestinians), because that’s the nature of war. And, while this all seems like it’s far, far away, America is not immune from terrorist attacks inside the US and all that post 9-11 worst case scenario strategizing came to mind… like sleeper cells and other awful possibilities.

Between the Biden open border threat, not knowing who all has entered our country, there were also thousands upon thousands of unvetted refugees brought here during the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle, even though the WH insisted they were all vetted. Back in 2016, when Trump was running for president and made building the border wall a major campaign pledge, the usual estimated number of illegals in America cited was 11 million. Here we are in 2023 and since Biden became president he reversed the Trump border policies, resulting in floods of illegals pouring across the border every single day.

The Biden unvetted refugees and border fiasco creates a very serious national security threat.

A recent news media report cited “10 million illegals in America.” Those 11 million from 2016 are still here and some were still getting in during Trump’s presidency, even though he had imposed stricter border enforcement policies. Biden opened the border in 2021, so how on earth the estimated number of illegals is 10 million, when it was 11 million in 2016, boggles my mind. Our government probably doesn’t even have a clue how many illegal immigrants are here and how many have bad intentions, but never fear the FBI is still hunting down every single person who attended the J-6 rally, even if they didn’t enter the Capitol or break any laws. They probably spend more time on tracking “MAGA Republicans” than illegals with criminal backgrounds. Here’s a NBC report from September that states the same things as the FOX News link at the top of this blog post: Number of people on terrorist watchlist stopped at southern U.S. border has risen. That report stated that so far this year, they had apprehended 160 illegals, who are on the FBI terror watchlist, trying to enter the US. One can only wonder how many have gotten through, who weren’t apprehended.

Awful possibilities are always with us, but that doesn’t mean we need to stop living or get worked up constantly, but we should be aware of potential threats.

We all like scapegoating, because it’s easier to blame someone or some group we don’t like for being “the cause” of complex events unfolding than it is to realize there are a lot of people, countries, leaders, whose actions compete, clash, jostle for power, and even before Russia invaded Ukraine, Russia and China (and other countries aligned in their sphere) have been planning and working toward replacing the US (and the West) as the main powerbrokers on the world-stage. Russia and China have actively aided Iran, who in turn funds and facilitates terror operations all over the world – including Hamas.

President Biden came out and made a statement that the US stands with Israel, but based on past experience with Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, it’s a sure thing that the left will start trying to pressure Israel to back down and the crowd at the UN will start blaming Israel. I remember the 1972 Palestinian terrorist attack at the Olympics, where two Israeli athletes were murdered and 9 hostages were taken (and killed), so there’s a long history of Palestinian terror.

I don’t want war and I don’t think any sane person does, but the reality is events are leading in that direction and those events are being driven by various countries and entities. It’s really easy to point to some nebulous “they” and blame “they,” but the world is a big place and there are a whole lot of “theys” with a whole lot of interests. There isn’t some easy off-ramp, especially for America, who has taken on a lot of global responsibilities, that have benefited “we the people” a whole lot. Our standard of living, that we’re all used to, would not have been possible if America had been an isolationist country. I listen to a lot of people rant about how we should demand Ukraine stop the war, which a lot of anti-Ukraine Americans insist should happen, even though Russia invaded Ukraine, not the other way around and Russia doesn’t want to stop the war or withdraw from Ukraine. Likewise, Israel was attacked and has every right to defend their country and destroy the Hamas terrorist network.

After decades of “endless wars” it’s understandable that many Americans have taken an isolationist stance, but these same people likely would hate a world where America was a has-been world leader and China and Russia dominated the world. The truth is our decades of military adventures, GWOT or “democracy in the ME” or whatever name you affix to our post 9/11 foreign policy, has left a lot of turmoil in the world too, so it’s not just Russia and China trying to cause problems. We left a whole lot of power vacuums in our wake, which will likely keep blowing up in our face. We also left a whole lot of military equipment in Afghanistan and scattered about the ME, that’s going to end up in the hands of people who hate us.

While I’m definitely not like Lindsey Graham, who’s never seen a war he didn’t want to get the US involved in, with Ukraine and Israel, I do support offering intel assistance, arms and other aid. Frankly, both of these situations would be perfectly in line with the Reagan Doctrine, which I think made America stronger. Russia isn’t going to stop at Ukraine, if we abandon Ukraine. China has territorial aspirations and they’re building their military and military assets to achieve them. Iran is going to wage more terror attacks against the West and Israel. Hamas has American hostages and today I saw Biden said 14 Americans have been killed in Israel.

I’m going to circle back to the personal though, because I know how it feels to have a husband deployed to war and one of my sons deployed to Iraq in 2006. I don’t want to see other people’s sons and daughters sent off to war or my grandchildren, but frankly, Biden abandoning Americans in Afghanistan left me feeling we lost a part of our soul as a nation. It would be a terrible thing if America abandoned Israel, with Americans brutally slaughtered and some may be held hostage by Hamas.

And God forbid if something awful like what Israel just suffered happens here, I hope Americans will be able to pull together and meet the challenge. The most unsettling thing I’ve seen in the last few days has been protests, especially on some American college campuses, cheering on Hamas. Any Republican leader who rushed to virtue-signal, by embracing BLM during those protests in 2020, should be doing some serious soul-searching.

BLM was a group founded by people who openly stated they were Marxists… Hamas paraglided across Israel’s border to wage their bloody attack on military and civilians. A whole lots of American college kids and leftists cheering this makes me wonder if they’d lift a finger to defend America. Never mind, I know the answer to this. I watched the mayhem in the 2020 “Summer of Love.”

Alarming events unfold as Israel comes under attack

Israel suffered a major attack by Hamas on Saturday and hundreds of civilians are reported murdered and large numbers of Israeli civilians taken hostage. There have been reports that some Americans in Israel were taken hostage too, but I haven’t seen any confirmation of that yet. Israel has declared war on Hamas. Iran has reportedly aided Hamas in this attack and yet so far, President Biden hasn’t said anything and neither have former presidents Obama and Clinton. All three have been gung ho with appeasing Iran and Hamas and Biden recently cut some deal with Iran – a prisoner swap and releasing $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds.

Here’s a post on X of Sec. of State Anthony Blinken admitting Iran always focuses on funding terror, which begs the question why the Biden administration is so gung ho to cut deals with Iran and why they released this $6 billion:

One interesting bit of news yesterday was Israel has loosened its private gun ownership rules, to allow as many Israeli citizens as possible to arm themselves for self-defense:

This article today explains some of the background and many more details of the situation in this conflict: Hamas’s War on Israel: Everything You Need to Know: Answering your questions on Hamas, Iran, the occupation, and more., written by Alana Newhouse and Jeremy Stern. This article explains the Obama/Biden embrace of Iran, who funds, arms, and trains Hamas and raises some disturbing questions about why the Biden administration has been mostly silent on Hamas’ attack on Israel and slow on condemning Hamas. Former President Obama, likewise was silent over the weekend on condemning Hamas and Iran’s support of Hamas. Here’s an excerpt from this article:

When he was Obama’s vice president, Biden was a central progenitor of the Iran Deal, which he then solidified as the cornerstone of his own administration’s Middle East policy.

By allying the U.S. with Tehran, the Iran Deal created a deadly embrace between the United States and a terror state run by corrupt medieval clerics who keep power through violence against their own people and by promoting terror and chaos abroad. As a self-proclaimed “revolutionary regime,” Iran explicitly aims to set not just Israel, but the entire region, on fire.

Giving the Iranians the backing of the U.S. was a recipe for chaos and a green light for terror throughout the region, which is exactly what has happened since Obama announced his deal. Funding Iranian terror, to the tune of $16 billion that the Biden administration sent to Iran in recent weeks, is an act of criminal negligence. As a result, it is fair to say that America has Israeli blood on its hands, too.

There are still unanswered questions on how Hamas was able to to carry out this attack and how Israel’s high-tech border security systems failed. There are also unanswered questions as to whether Russia and/or China possibly aided Hamas’ attack. Turkey’s, leader, President Erdogan, was also urging Israel not to wage war on Hamas and as typically happens when Israel is attacked, there will likely be an effort to reframe Israel as somehow in the wrong and also a massive PR effort directed at the Arab Street in the Middle East and Erdogan is certainly no stranger to leaning into that propaganda effort.

Just like with the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle and the disjointed Biden effort to aid Ukraine after a full-scale Russian invasion, the Biden administration will likely bungle along with how they respond to this latest crisis. Despite doing the maintaining face lip service about supporting Israel, the Biden crowd is the same as the Obama crowd and definitely not pro-Israel. This crowd also consistently made excuses for Palestinian terror in the past. Ditto this for the Clintons and former President Clinton, likewise was silent on condemning Hamas over the weekend. Back during the Clinton years, the PLO leader, Yassir Arafat, was a frequent visitor to the Clinton WH, while Hillary hobnobbed with Arafat’s wife. Coddling Palestinian terrorists, while shifting blame to Israel is par for the course with Clinton, Obama and now Biden.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his band of nincompoops at the State Department have been posting on X, urging Israel to not respond to the attack on its country and then deleting posts, apparently reacting to public outrage for sounding weak on condemning Hamas:

Just like in every other event that dominates the news lately, wild conspiracy theories are already permeating about this attack on Israel, but so far this seems to be the gist of what’s happening. Hamas was acting with Iran’s support and direction. Russian and/or Chinese involvement has not been proven. President Biden didn’t respond and instead hosted a BBQ at the White House yesterday afternoon: White House slammed for hosting BBQ with live band as war rages in Israel.

What happened in Israel should be a wake-up call for Democrats and their open borders embrace. Israel takes securing their borders very seriously. There have been reports that possibly cyberattacks dismantled some of the Israeli border security systems, but here in the US, our government has no idea how many illegals have flooded in, where they are from and what their intentions are. Judging by how obsessed the Biden administration and Democrats are at scapegoating the right, they’re more invested in hunting down “MAGA Republicans” than illegals who mean us harm.

The Biden administration is a complete disgrace and they’re already covering their own butts for their complicity in aiding and abetting Iranian terrorism and foot-dragging on supporting Israel. While many people reflexively jump on the bandwagon urging a “ceasefire,” just like in Ukraine, what demanding a “ceasefire” does is pressure the country that was invaded to appease the country that invaded – it rewards the bad actors. This happened in Ukraine too and many Americans bought into this idea that Ukraine should just agree to a ceasefire, which would freeze lines where Russia seized Ukrainian territory. Blinken immediately urging a ceasefire would pressure Israel not to rightly defend itself. In Ukraine, Russia invaded, not the other way around and this situation with Israel, it’s important to keep in mind, who was the aggressor. Hamas invaded Israel and murdered hundreds of Israeli citizens.

Is America being hit by the “salami” technique?

Finally, getting to my sort of book report post on The Journal of David Q. Little, by R. Daniel McMichael, which was published in 1967. I’m sure I’ll reference this novel in future posts and to be honest, I’m only halfway through (it’s 557 pages), because I keep jotting notes on post-it flags and sticking them in the book and also writing down notes on paper. I can see how this novel influenced President Ronald Reagan, because it’s a story set in the late 20th century, after a US president signs onto a World Order of Nations (W.O.N.) agreement with the Soviet Union and other nations of the world to avert nuclear war (nuclear blackmail by the Soviet Union).

This W.O.N. agreement sets up a new international organization with vastly more power than the United Nations and it supersedes the US Constitution, even though the people of the United States are led to believe that this is all about world peace and trying to get along with other countries. There’s also a Treaty of Friendship the US signed onto. In reality with the stroke of a pen, an American president signed away American sovereignty to the Soviet Union and the remaking of America and dismantling of American beliefs in freedom and individualism blaze across the nation, as this novel begins.

The nuclear blackmail incident centered on the Soviet Union secretly building a massive nuclear arsenal – “she had a nuclear superiority of about 20,000 megatons capable of rapid delivery, compared with the U.S.A.’s rapid delivery nuclear capability then of only 2000 megatons – down from a previous high some years earlier of about 53,000 megatons.” This suggested to me some previous unilateral downsizing of the US nuclear arsenal, which over the years I’ve heard many liberals advocate.

The story is written as a journal of some average guy, David Q. Little, that is found in the year 2223. Historians keep gathering bits of old Americana from the time the world devolved into tyranny under this W.O.N. one-world system, akin to how historians in our day search for clues to unravel the fall of Rome.

The author wrote this fictional novel with footnotes to fill in background of Little’s journal, which is a very interesting way of plotting a fictional novel. I love reading footnotes and appendices in non-fiction books, so this is my cup of tea. The explanation of the nuclear blackmail comes with Little’s mention of DD-Day in his journal, with this footnote, “Newspapers used this expression in referring to the December 20 “destruction deadline” set by the USSR; the day on which she, presumably, would have exploded nuclear devices over 24 United States cities.”

Obviously, you can see how Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative was likely influenced some by this novel.

A couple days ago I mentioned Stella Morabito’s piece from 2016 about this novel and then I followed with an X-thread of mine, so I want to be clear what I meant. Stephen Miller had commented on the above X-post about President Biden making that bizarre speech on September 1, 2022. Here’s a FOX News headline, Biden shocks viewers with ‘hellish red background’ for polarizing speech. He has continually fumed about Americans, who hold right-wing political beliefs, as being “MAGA Extremists,” and that term “MAGA extremist” could be applied to anyone who doesn’t agree with the left’s progressive views and agenda.

In this dystopian novel, David Q. Little comes to realize that anyone who dares question anything about the new rules being implemented can quickly be labelled an “extremist” and end up being tried in televised, staged public hearings, where the crowd has been coached on rallying a mob atmosphere to denounce the extremists, who are smeared as “Mr. X.” The hearings begin with a prayer about “the fulfillment of mankind’s oldest aspiration – peace” and then a new Pledge of Allegiance. The witnesses testifying in these public hearings are co-workers, friends and even family members. Then, if warranted the guilty are turned over to a world court system for trial.

Many of the communist indoctrination methods described in this novel remind me of how the progressive Left in America plays these same type of forcing new words and phrases on the American public and then tries to engage in public-shaming exercises to force people to comply. The intimidation of threatening people’s jobs for failing to comply seems eerily similar too. If Dems could get hate speech laws severely limiting speech passed in America, I feel certain they would avidly criminalize speech they want silenced. In Little’s journal anyone holding to the old ways, like American patriotism, rambling about the Constitution, questioning the new rules, possessing a firearm (guns were confiscated), and the list goes on and on, becomes a target of being labelled an “extremist.” Everything is rationed, travel is restricted, passes are needed for everything and worst of all the people are being forced to spy on each other and report their neighbors, friends, and even family for being extremists or breaking any of these new rules. So much of this sounds like the Great Reset green dreams and COVID social mitigation excesses.

Amazingly, most people in this novel adopt a go along to get along attitude and keep deluding themselves that they aren’t living under communism and rationalizing that making some adjustments to work for world peace is worth it, considering the alternative of nuclear annihilation. The main character, David Q. Little, a rather conformist type guy, begins to wake up to what’s really going on and begins his private journal as the only place he can express his thoughts and feelings openly. His wife is all-in on the “peace” plans. He is a man consumed by guilt, as he got sucked into testifying against other people and pressured to lead a march.

The footnote on the legislation prohibiting possession of firearms explains that law was enacted some years before the Treaty of Friendship “in order to assure greater public safety.” It also states the treaty sought to re-enforce this law.

President Biden and Dems repeating this “MAGA Extremists” public tarring has struck me as so egregious for any American president to try to engage in creating a mob mentality against a segment of society, especially “extremists,” who are so vaguely defined, that the smear can be adjusted at will – just disagree with the left’s agenda and you might be a MAGA extremist, just like anything imaginable now gets labelled as “racist.” I felt disturbed by this MAGA extremist smearing before I even heard of this novel.

I have several books on Ronald Reagan and in another book, I had read he often mentioned a book he read when he was 11, The Printer of Udell’s, as helping shape his moral sense, but I had never heard of this dystopian novel about the US surrendering to USSR nuclear blackmail, under the guise of signing onto a new international order dedicated to peaceful coexistence.

It’s become very trendy among the American right to rant about Marxists and communism these days, but I suspect most of the people doing that labelling have no understanding of the Russian Revolution, the Chinese Revolution and the decades long Cold War era.

I’ve written about the left-wing Marxist-tinged movements, like BLM, the trans movement and the collectivist one-world governance effort being pushed by an assortment of unelected elites at the WEF, UN, international banking, and ultra-wealthy business leaders, in cooperation with many world leaders under the auspices of the UN’s 2030 Agenda and various green energy transformation initiatives and DEI programs.

America’s most determined adversaries assuredly target both political sides in America with efforts to sow divisions, fuel distrust and latch onto any means possible to manipulate Americans via the media. Minority factions have always been key targets by Marxists to exploit divides and ignite anti-American sentiments. Since Dems and the liberal media invested so much effort with the Clinton Trump-Russian collusion dirty trick effort and labelling just about anything “Russian disinformation,” at this point that term is pretty much meaningless, but that doesn’t mean the Russians, Chinese and other foreign actors aren’t busily fueling divides in America via information war and other penetration efforts. For instance see the Confucius Institutes. The Wahhabi movement has been a global movement too and put effort into spreading Wahhabism to American black universities and prisons. There are other international groups dedicated to spreading Marxist ideology too. And there are also melded ideologies of Islamic extremism and Marxism, like The Nation of Islam. The founders of BLM stated they were inspired by Marxist ideology.

I don’t believe Trump is a Russian agent but, I do believe he reveres strong men and authoritarian leaders, in addition to having no respect for following the rules. In fact, one of Trump’s big selling points in 2016 was about how Trump doesn’t follow the rules. He did encourage rally attendees to punch protestors that showed up in 2015-2016. A 78 year-old man got caught up in that “fight back” atmosphere that Trump escalated, when protestors disrupted the rally and the elderly man sucker-punched a protestor. That elderly man ended up getting arrested and charged – while Trump pretended none of that incitement effort was his fault (the same as what he did on J-6). Trump leaves other people facing their legal bills, and until just recently had offered no financial assistance to J-6 attendees facing charges for their legal costs.

Trump followers go to great pains to cherry-pick Trump’s public cover-his-butt line about urging protestors to go to the Capitol and remain peaceful, but I watched that rally and all of the speakers were using incendiary language to rile up that crowd and urging them to “Stop the Steal.” And while I do believe there was serious law enforcement failure that day and the FBI might have had informants in the crowd, Trump set up that rally to pressure Mike Pence to do something he had no constitutional authority to do.

So, we have this mob formation going on not just on the left with all their hate speech dramas and othering people, but on both sides of the partisan aisle in America now.

Back in the Cold War days there was a term, “useful idiot,” used to describe a person who unwittingly aided Soviet propaganda efforts. I don’t believe Trump is a Russian agent, but he’s one of the most useful idiots for Putin. Trump basked in Putin’s praise, Trump also trashed NATO constantly and talked about wanting to pull the US out of NATO. The US pulling out of NATO would be a huge victory for Putin and President Xi of China. That move would be surrendering America’s position as a world leader, without our adversaries having to exert any military or economic effort. Trump also refers to President Xi, another dictator, as a friend and he loved yucking it up with Kim Jong Un, the leader of one of the most repressive regimes in the world and for very little in return – North Korea didn’t stop any of their weapons procurement or alter their long-range objectives.

What America’s adversaries got was the sight of America’s military leaders having fits over the stupidity of frittering away the prestige of a presidential meeting with no real strategic gains. Trump’s followers believe he’s the greatest dealmaker in the world, but if you don’t even understand the foreign policy stakes for America- in detail – and believe a photo-op with you is winning, then how on earth can you negotiate a deal that’s to America’s advantage? Communist regimes are the most devious and deceptive regimes to work on deals with, because they play endless word games and have turned strategic ambiguity into an art form.

On the left we have a Democratic Party consumed by radical one-world collectivist dreams that reek of stale Marxist ideology. That ideology has literally captured academia in America and many American K-12 public schools and they’re working on turning our American military into a far-left institution too.

Our American political and public institutions really are being hit by both sides and I had hoped the communist threat was over in 1989.

In the author’s notes to this dystopian novel, McMichael, explains how the Soviets were trying to find a way to take down Czechoslovakia, the last remaining democracy, which fell in 1948. The Soviets were trying to sell their international image as working toward world peace and were trying to persuade the Americans to give up their nuclear weapons, so tanks rolling into Prague would have demolished that image. McMichael writes, “A way was found quite in keeping with the enigmas of the Marxist-Leninist world of dialectics. For the Czech problem: just turn everything upside down. Keep the military on the sidelines, stationed in other Bloc satellites but close enough to pose a frightening threat. Then, activate a concerted effort to break the will of the non-communist Czechs against a peaceful solution, this through the arts of propaganda, subversion and intimidation – components of which included: use of popular fronts, protest committees, disinformation, discrediting and decapitating non-communist leadership – all designed to generate loss of national confidence to resist the “inevitability of history and the will of the people.”

McMichael, went on, “The means employed was the continuing use of the strategy of “pressure from above, pressure from below” projects and the application of the “salami” technique to isolate leadership and institutions (such as bankers and banks) from lay public support. Targets involved leadership penetration of parliament, civil service, police, judiciary, as well as the electorate.”

This blitz started in 1946 McMichael states and Czechoslovakia fell in 1948.

I’ve been pondering the chaos going on in America for the past 20 years and in recent years it’s escalated dramatically, which has left me concerned that now both sides of America are dangerously polarized and unstable. This culture war, largely fueled by a relentless 24/7 spin information war, has played an outsized role in the culture war, I’ve believed since the late 1990s. I write about my thoughts about the spin information war on my blog and I’ve tweeted about it, but I stopped mentioning my ideas to my family members who are interested in foreign policy, because they just dismiss me as if I’m saying something ridiculous. Unless someone in the news says it – they don’t believe it. I have a high school education and when I first started trying to understand this spin information war, no one was talking about these repetitive messaging attacks that the liberal media and Dems launch (now in the right they produce clever videos, like that video of 3.4% fatality that kicked off COVID hysteria)- all the talk was about right-wingers complaining about “media bias.” I don’t care if anyone agrees with me, because I pay for my blog here and as long as I can get blog posts published, which is difficult with that autosaving problem, I mentioned, I’m going to keep writing. I usually end up having to do more background reading to even understand a lot of the issues and terminology I run into, as I wade through books and information online.

I’m going to continue to be a lone voice in the wilderness and I’ll keep reading through stacks of books and online searching trying to dig for information and hopefully find some answers. I highly recommend this dystopian novel, because while it’s very easy to invoke Orwell’s 1984, which I reread last year, I think this novel offers much more relevant food for thought about the culture war in America and the political chaos.

If you’re reading my blog, I sincerely thank you for your time.
